Best Things to do in Dubrovnik (2026)

Many of the best experiences in Dubrovnik take you just beyond the walls. The Dubrovnik Cable Car climbs to the summit of Mount Srđ in about four minutes, giving the classic view over the Old Town and the islands, with a war museum in Fort Imperial at the top. Banje Beach, a few minutes from the Ploče Gate, is the easiest place for a swim with a view of the walls, and the small morning market on Gundulić Square is the place to buy candied orange peel, dried figs and local liqueurs.

With an extra day, take a boat to the Elaphiti Islands, where Lopud has a sandy bay at Šunj, or sail down the coast to Cavtat, the ancient settlement whose refugees founded Dubrovnik. Remember that Dubrovnik is a seasonal city: the cable car does not run from December to March, and boat timetables are much reduced in winter. In summer, start early, rest during the hottest hours and save the cable car or a beach for late afternoon and sunset.
