Good to know
The Beach Restaurant is the seaside dining room of The Chedi Muscat, the resort designed by Jean-Michel Gathy on the coast north of the city centre, between the Al Hajar mountains and the Gulf of Oman. It sits right by the private beach, and the resort presents it as a place for couples and special occasions. Of all the dining options in the hotel's 21 acres of gardens, this is the one where the setting does most of the work: tables close to the sand, the sound of the sea and the lights of the coast at night.
The menu is built around seafood, combining classic techniques with ingredients from around the world. Dishes change, so ask the team about the day's catch and their recommendations. As a licensed hotel restaurant, it offers wine and drinks to go with the meal, and the staff can guide you through the list.
Book ahead, particularly for weekend nights and the cooler months from October to April, when evenings outside are at their best. Ask for a table nearest the water when you reserve, and mention any celebration so the team can prepare. Smart dress is sensible, in keeping with the resort's style. Expect prices at the top end of the Muscat market, in line with other luxury resort restaurants.
It suits couples celebrating an anniversary or proposal, and anyone wanting a memorable last-night dinner before a flight, given how close the resort is to the airport. Plan for a long, unhurried evening rather than a quick meal. If you cannot get a table, the resort's other restaurants offer Mediterranean, Asian and fine-dining menus around the pools and gardens, so a meal elsewhere in the resort is a good fallback. Arrive a little early to walk through the gardens and past the long pool, which at 103 metres is one of the resort's signature features.
The Chedi is on 18th November Street, about 15 minutes by car from Muscat International Airport and around 20 minutes from the business districts. A taxi is the easiest way to get there. Contact the resort on +968 2452 4400 or [email protected] for reservations.
