Thing to do
1. Old Medina of Casablanca
A walk through the walled old town rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, with souks along the ramparts, shrines, the old mellah and the Sqala bastion.
View details — Old Medina of CasablancaCasablanca rewards visitors who walk. The old medina near the port is the place to start, a compact walled quarter of narrow lanes, shrines and everyday markets that feels far less touristy than the medinas of Fez or Marrakech. From there, Boulevard Mohammed V leads into the heart of the Art Deco city, and a slow walk along it, looking up at the facades, is one of the most rewarding free things to do in Morocco. Combine the two in a single day, with lunch at the Central Market or a café on United Nations Square.
In the late afternoon, head west to the Ain Diab Corniche, where the promenade, surf schools, beach clubs and seafront restaurants come alive as the sun goes down. The Morocco Mall at the far end of the Corniche is useful on a hot or rainy day, with an aquarium, an ice rink and a musical fountain that appeal to children, and families can also spend a day at the Ain Sebaa Zoo, which reopened at the end of 2025 after a full redevelopment. Petits taxis are the easiest way to move between these areas, as distances are too long to cover comfortably on foot.
