Restaurant
Geranium
Rasmus Kofoed and Søren Ledet's three-Michelin-star restaurant on the eighth floor above Fælledparken, serving long seasonal tasting menus with views over the park.
An informal Italian restaurant in Kødbyen known for sourdough pizza from a wood-fired oven, seasonal ingredients and weekend brunch.
Good to know
Mother was one of the first restaurants to open in Kødbyen, the Meatpacking District in Vesterbro, and it remains one of the busiest. It describes itself as an utterly Italian restaurant without all the nonsense, and its trademark is sourdough pizza baked in a wood-fired oven. Alongside the original restaurant in Kødbyen there is a second branch in the city centre, but the Meatpacking District location is the one most people mean when they talk about Mother.
The menu is built around simple, high-quality food: seasonal ingredients, artisan products imported from Italy and dishes cooked in the wood oven, from the pizzas to starters and sides. The menu changes with the seasons, and the Italian products give the cooking its character.
The restaurant is informal and lively. It suits families, groups of friends and anyone who wants a good, reasonably priced meal in Vesterbro. At weekends and on public holidays, Mother also serves brunch from 11:00 to 15:00, which is popular with locals.
Mother is open every day: Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 22:00, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 23:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 22:00. Tables can be booked online through the reservations section of the website, and booking is wise for weekend evenings and brunch. Mid-afternoon on a weekday is usually the easiest time to find a table without a wait.
Høkerboderne is in the Kødbyen area just south of Copenhagen Central Station, a short walk from Dybbølsbro station and from Istedgade in Vesterbro. Kødbyens Fiskebar and Paté Paté are close by, and the area's bars and clubs make Mother a natural first stop before a night out.
The website lists upcoming events, and brunch details and prices are published on a separate page, so check before you go if you are planning a weekend visit. Because Mother opened early in Kødbyen's transformation from a working meat market into a dining district, it is something of a local institution, and many Copenhageners have been coming here for years. Pizza is the obvious choice for a first visit, but it is worth leaving room for something from the wood oven or a seasonal starter to share.
