Nimb Hotel
A five-star boutique hotel inside Tivoli Gardens, in a Moorish-style palace from 1909, with 38 rooms and suites, several restaurants and a rooftop pool.
Copenhagen's grande dame on Kongens Nytorv, a five-star hotel with roots in 1755, home to the Michelin-starred Marchal, a Champagne bar and a spa with an indoor pool.
Good to know
Hotel d'Angleterre has stood on Kongens Nytorv, Copenhagen's grandest square, for more than 270 years, and its history goes back to 1755. After a fire in 1795 damaged the earlier building, the hotel moved into its present home, which was significantly extended and refurbished between 1872 and 1875 by the architects Vilhelm Dahlerup and Georg E. W. Møller. A long restoration ended with a reopening in May 2013, and the hotel now describes itself as a five-star superior luxury hotel. Over the years its guests have included statesmen, film stars and musicians.
The hotel has around 90 rooms and suites, from Superior and Deluxe guest rooms to Junior Suites, One Bedroom Suites and the Royal Suite. The location is hard to beat: Nyhavn, the Royal Danish Theatre and the start of Strøget are all on the doorstep.
Food and drink are a major part of the d'Angleterre experience. Marchal, the hotel restaurant, holds a Michelin star and is led by executive chef Alexander Baert. The Balthazar Champagne bar offers more than 160 Champagnes, and Maison is the hotel's own pastry shop.
The spa, run by Amazing Space, includes a heated indoor pool of about 12 metres, a sauna and a steam room, and offers massages, facials, Nordic spa rituals and other treatments. The spa and pool are open from 7:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and from 8:00 to 19:00 at weekends, and the fitness room is open around the clock. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult in the pool area.
D'Angleterre suits couples, luxury travellers, honeymooners and business guests who want a central address with full service. It is one of the most expensive hotels in the city, so book well ahead for the best rates, particularly in summer and in December. The hotel also has conference and event spaces for between 10 and 400 people.
Kongens Nytorv metro station, served by all the city's metro lines, is right outside, and Copenhagen Airport is about 10 kilometres away, so the metro and a taxi are both easy options for arrival.
Film fans may recognise the lobby: Alfred Hitchcock makes his cameo appearance there in Torn Curtain, in which the main character stays at the hotel.
It is a five-star hotel, which it describes as five-star superior.
