Hotel
Raffles Singapore
Singapore's grand colonial hotel, opened in 1887 by the Sarkies brothers, now an all-suite property with butler service and the birthplace of the Singapore Sling.
Five-star hotel in the 1928 former General Post Office at the mouth of the Singapore River, a national monument with 400 rooms and suites.
Good to know
The Fullerton occupies the neoclassical building completed in 1928 as Singapore's General Post Office, and it opened as a hotel in 2001. Declared a national monument in 2015, it has 400 rooms and suites, ranging from courtyard rooms overlooking the soaring atrium to Quay and Marina Bay view rooms looking out over the water.
The position is hard to beat: Merlion Park, the Asian Civilisations Museum and Boat Quay are all a few minutes' walk away. Choose a river- or bay-facing room if views matter, as courtyard rooms look inward. The Straits Club is worth considering for longer stays. Raffles Place MRT station is close by.
