Why we recommend it

Harry's New York Bar has been pouring drinks on Rue Daunou, between Avenue de l'Opéra and Rue de la Paix, since 1911, when the American jockey Tod Sloan converted a bistro into the New York Bar. Bartender Harry MacElhone bought it in 1923 and added his name, and the bar still trades on that long transatlantic history.

The bar is said to be the birthplace of several classics, including the Bloody Mary, the French 75 and the Sidecar, so ordering one of them feels almost obligatory. Expect a mix of regulars and visitors at the counter. It is an easy stop after a performance at the Palais Garnier.
