Good to know
Opened in June 1898 by the Swiss hotelier César Ritz with the chef Auguste Escoffier, the Ritz Paris gave its name to a whole idea of luxury. Set on Place Vendôme, it combines gilded period rooms and suites with a run of famous spaces: the Art Deco Bar Vendôme, the restaurant L'Espadon, a glass-roofed Grand Jardin and a library for afternoon tea.
The Ritz Club houses a swimming pool, fitness centre, sauna and hammam, and the hotel runs the École Ritz Escoffier for cookery and pastry classes. Even if you are not staying, teatime or a pastry from the hotel's pastry counter is a way to see the interiors.
