Why we recommend it

Bouillon Julien was opened in 1906 by Edouard Fournier, and its dining room is one of the finest Art Nouveau interiors in Paris, with carved mahogany, stained glass and painted panels of women framed by flowers. The menu follows the bouillon tradition of good-value French classics served quickly and without fuss.

Unlike some bouillons, it accepts reservations online, which is worth doing for dinner. It serves continuously from late morning until midnight, so a late lunch or supper is easy to arrange. The surrounding Faubourg Saint-Denis is full of bars for a drink afterwards.
