Best Attractions in São Paulo (2026)

São Paulo's sights are spread across a large city, so it pays to plan them by area. The historic centre holds the Catedral da Sé, the Mosteiro de São Bento, where the monks sing in Gregorian chant, and the Farol Santander, whose observation deck gives an overview of the city from the top of the old Banespa tower. The Theatro Municipal, also in the centre, runs free guided tours, including tours in English on set days. The Luz district has the Pinacoteca, the city's oldest art museum, and the Museu da Língua Portuguesa inside the Estação da Luz, a natural pairing for half a day.

Avenida Paulista is home to MASP, with its famous open span and a collection that runs from Raphael to Portinari, while Parque Ibirapuera combines lawns, lakes and Niemeyer buildings with museums such as MAM. Further out, the Museu do Futebol sits under the stands of the Pacaembu stadium and the Museu do Ipiranga tells the story of Brazil in a palace reopened in 2022. Check closing days before you go: MASP closes on Mondays, the Pinacoteca on Tuesdays, and several museums are free on set days, including MASP and the Museu do Futebol on Tuesdays. Online booking is required at MASP even on free days.
