Bar
Loos American Bar
A tiny cocktail bar designed by Adolf Loos in 1908, with mahogany, onyx, marble and mirrored walls that make the room seem far larger than it…
A long-established nightclub inside the Volksgarten park on the Ring, open Thursday to Saturday from 23:00 until dawn, with garden areas in the warmer months.
Good to know
The Volksgarten Club is one of the best-known nightclubs in central Vienna, set in the Volksgarten park on the Ringstrasse between the Hofburg and the Burgtheater. Its location is unusual: you enter a historic park, famous by day for its rose garden and the Temple of Theseus, and by night dance a few steps from the imperial palace.
The club describes itself as the club in the heart of Vienna's inner city. Its programme focuses on regular club nights and special events such as Halloween and New Year's Eve, and the programme for each night is announced on its website and social media channels. In spring and summer the outdoor areas open up, including a garden section, which gives the club an open-air feel on warm nights.
The club opens from Thursday to Saturday and on most nights before public holidays, from 23:00 until 06:00. The minimum age is 21, which sets it apart from many student-oriented venues. There is no formal dress code and no guest list is needed: you simply pay at the entrance in cash, while the bars take cards. Advance tickets are only sold for special events. Groups can reserve a table with a minimum spend, which includes entry through a side entrance, but these packages are aimed at larger parties.
The Volksgarten suits groups of friends and travellers who want a classic big-city club night in a central location. It is busiest after midnight, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, so arriving earlier usually means a shorter wait. Remember that entry is cash only, so bring enough with you rather than relying on cash machines nearby. Use the cloakroom and keep your ticket safe, as you will need it, or an official photo ID, to reclaim belongings.
The club is on the Burgring side of the Volksgarten. Volkstheater station (U2, U3) is the nearest underground stop, and trams 1, 2, D and 71 stop at Burgring outside. The bars and restaurants of the old town are a few minutes' walk away for a drink beforehand, and the Ring trams make it easy to get back to most central hotels.
