Why we recommend it
Skye is the rooftop restaurant and bar of Hotel Unique, the arc-shaped design hotel by Ruy Ohtake in Jardins, and the hotel bills it as the most talked-about rooftop in São Paulo. The main reason to come is the view: from the terrace you look out over Parque Ibirapuera, the tree-covered horizon around it and the skyline of Avenida Paulista. Beside the bar sits the red-tinted rooftop pool that has become a signature of the hotel, and it makes a striking backdrop after dark.
The bar comes alive in the evening, when DJs play from 19:00 from Monday to Thursday, from 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and from 18:00 on Sundays. Arriving around sunset gives you the best chance of seeing the view in daylight and then as the city lights come on. The Wall, another space at the hotel, serves signature drinks from morning until midnight from Monday to Saturday and until 23:00 on Sundays.
Skye is also a full restaurant, led by chef Emmanuel Bassoleil, whom the hotel describes as a French chef with a Brazilian heart. The cooking reinterprets culinary traditions with immigrant influences and Brazilian flavours, and more than half of the menu is vegetarian or vegan. Dishes include squid-ink spaghettini with octopus, steamed sea bass with champagne cream and caviar, a Peruvian-style Bloody Mary ceviche and the house signature, casquinha de siri e camarão, made with crab and prawn. Choco-Passion is on the dessert list.
Plan around the reservation rules. Dinner reservations are taken only for hotel guests, until 19:30; other visitors are seated in order of arrival, and the door closes when the rooftop is full. Weekday lunch reservations are accepted until 13:00 and breakfast reservations until 9:00. Dinner runs from 18:00 until 00:30 from Monday to Saturday and until 23:30 on Sundays and holidays. Arrive early on Friday and Saturday nights if you are not staying at the hotel.
