Bar
Bar Brahma
A downtown bar founded in 1948 at the corner of Avenida Ipiranga and Avenida São João, immortalised in Caetano Veloso's song Sampa and known for live…
A Pinheiros noodle bar turned cocktail bar, founded in 2015 by Thiago Bañares and the highest-ranked Brazilian entry on The World's 50 Best Bars list.
Good to know
Tan Tan opened in 2015 as a small Japanese noodle bar created by chef Thiago Bañares, and it has grown into one of the most celebrated bars in Latin America. The bar describes itself as a bar that was not born a bar: half restaurant and half bar, blending Brazilian and Asian flavours. In The World's 50 Best Bars 2026 it ranked number 35, the highest position of any bar in Brazil. Bañares draws on his Chinese and Japanese heritage, and the drinks team is led by Caio Carvalhaes.
The cocktail menu changes over time. The current list, called Perspective, pairs two or three Brazilian ingredients in each drink to bring out contrasting flavours and textures; one combination of apple with yerba maté and green tea is offered both as a cocktail and as an alcohol-free version, which makes Tan Tan a good choice for non-drinkers too. Earlier favourites are kept on a hall-of-fame list, including Hello Suckers, made with tequila and lapsang souchong, and the cachaça-based Dirty Dance.
The food is far more than bar snacks. Small plates include shokupan milk bread and menchikatsu meatballs, while dinner brings aka teba, fried chicken wings with a house sweet chilli sauce, and dan dan mian pork noodles. A bowl of chashumen ramen remains on the menu as a reminder of the bar's beginnings.
The space has several personalities. Sit at the bar to watch the drinks team at work, or at the open kitchen counter to watch the cooks; there is outdoor seating facing the street and sofas suited to small groups. Tan Tan opens in the evening from 19:00 to 23:00, from Tuesday, and on Saturdays it also opens for lunch from 12:00 to 16:00. Reservations are taken through the Tock platform and are advisable on weekend nights.
Tan Tan suits couples, groups of friends and anyone serious about cocktails. It is the flagship of a small group that also includes Kotori, a Japanese restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and The Liquor Store, an intimate cocktail bar led by Caio Carvalhaes, so it is easy to build a whole evening around the group's venues in Pinheiros. Events and private bookings for the group are handled at [email protected].
