Good to know
Sky Lounge is the rooftop bar of The Kingsbury hotel in Colombo Fort, and it is one of the classic places in the city for a sunset drink. The hotel calls it the chic rooftop bar of Colombo, and the views take in Port City, Galle Face Green and the city skyline, with the sun setting over the sea. A 2025 guide to the city's rooftop bars places it on the tenth floor, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Music is a big part of the experience. Live music and entertainment run from 5pm to midnight, so you can arrive for sunset and stay as the evening builds. The drinks list is built around unique cocktails created by the hotel's award-winning mixologists, and cocktail, beverage and wine menus are available to download from the hotel's website before you go.
Food is designed for sharing alongside drinks. Sky Lounge offers finger food and tapas, and it also has a separate Italian menu, which means you can make an evening of it without moving on to a restaurant. If you want a full dinner, the Kingsbury's seafood restaurant Ocean is in the same building and opens for dinner from 6.30pm, with window tables looking out over Port City.
The rooftop guide notes a smart casual dress code and says the bar takes both reservations and walk-ins. Booking ahead is the safer option for sunset on Friday and Saturday or if you are a group. Reservations can be made through the hotel's main phone line or its reservations email. The bar suits couples, friends meeting after work and visitors who want an easy first night in Colombo with a view.
The Kingsbury is on Janadhipathi Mawatha, between Galle Face Green and the World Trade Centre, so it is well placed for an evening in Fort. The Old Dutch Hospital, with Ministry of Crab, is a short walk or tuk-tuk ride away for dinner, and Galle Face Green is just to the south for a stroll by the sea before or after your drinks. The hotel is about 33 kilometres from the airport, which makes Sky Lounge a convenient stop on an arrival evening.
