Hotel d’Angleterre
Copenhagen's grande dame on Kongens Nytorv, a five-star hotel with roots in 1755, home to the Michelin-starred Marchal, a Champagne bar and a spa with an…
A contemporary luxury hotel in a 1903 building close to Tivoli and the Central Station, with Scandinavian design, the restaurant NOI and the Marble Bar.
Good to know
Nobis Hotel Copenhagen opened in 2017 in one of the city centre's most handsome buildings. The building on Niels Brocks Gade was built in 1903 for the Royal Danish Academy of Music to designs by Martin Borch, who was Royal Building Inspector from 1903 to 1923, and the academy stayed here until it moved to Radiohuset in 2008. The Swedish property company Balder bought the building in 2015, the architects AI adapted it for hotel use, and the interiors were designed by the Swedish studio Wingårdhs.
The hotel describes its style as contemporary five-star luxury and invites guests to discover the Scandinavian architecture of its historic building. The result is a calm, understated hotel where the original structure of the old music academy remains part of the experience, and where comfort and quality take priority over decoration. It feels very different from the grand traditional hotels on Kongens Nytorv, and it appeals to travellers who like modern design.
The hotel restaurant, NOI, builds its menu around top ingredients with influences from all over Europe. Next to it, the Marble Bar is an elegant setting for a cocktail or a glass of wine before dinner or after a day of sightseeing. Together they make it easy to spend an evening in without feeling that you are missing out on Copenhagen's food scene.
Nobis suits couples, design-conscious travellers and business guests who want a refined base in the centre with quick access to the station. It is a quieter alternative to the hotels on the busiest streets, while still being within a few minutes' walk of the main sights. Rates are at the upper end of the market, so compare dates if your plans are flexible, and tell the hotel in advance about any special requests.
The location is one of the hotel's strongest points. Copenhagen Central Station, with direct trains to the airport, is a short walk away, as are Tivoli Gardens, City Hall Square and Strøget. The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is almost next door, and the National Museum and Christiansborg Palace can be reached on foot in around ten minutes. For an evening out, the restaurants and bars of Vesterbro and the Meatpacking District are within easy reach on foot or by bike.
