Good to know
Hotel Sanders is a small luxury hotel tucked into a quiet street just behind the Nyhavn canal, in the historic heart of Copenhagen. It is owned and run by Alexander Kølpin, a well-known Danish former ballet dancer, and occupies a building dating from 1869. The interiors were created by the London design team Lind + Almond, who combined a cosy, nostalgic feel with clean modern lines and small visual surprises around every corner. The hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
There are 54 rooms, each with its own style and design. At one end of the range, the Single Coupé rooms are inspired by the luxury train cabins of a bygone era, making the most of a compact space. At the other, the Sanders Apartments offer generous space and privacy, with separate lounge seating and open fireplaces. Throughout the hotel the mood is more like a stylish private home than a large hotel.
The hotel's restaurant is Sanders Kitchen, the TATA Cocktail Bar is its bar, and Sanders Rooftop adds a rooftop terrace with a bar. Other services include a 24-hour reception, room service, a concierge, bike rental and spa treatments on request. Dogs are welcome in the rooms for a fee.
Sanders suits couples, design lovers and travellers who prefer an intimate hotel with personal service to a large international chain. It is close to the Royal Danish Theatre, which fits its theatrical owner, and the location makes it easy to walk everywhere in the centre. Rooms are limited, so book ahead for weekends and the summer months, and ask the hotel about room types if you need more space than a Coupé offers.
Tordenskjoldsgade runs just behind Nyhavn, so the canal, Kongens Nytorv and its metro station are a couple of minutes away on foot, and Amalienborg and the harbour are within a short walk. The hotel also runs Sanders Residence on Kronprinsessegade.
The hotel has been recognised with a Michelin Key in the Michelin Guide's hotel selection. Parking is available in a self-service garage for a fee, and the reception is open around the clock.
