Why we recommend it

Dimitri's Coffee is one of the pioneers of Jordan's speciality coffee scene. It was founded in 2014 by three brothers who are passionate about coffee, and it roasts its own beans on a roaster designed by one of the brothers and built by local Jordanian engineers. From a single café it has grown into a small chain with branches across Amman, including Jabal al-Weibdeh, The Boulevard in Abdali, Mecca Street, Seventh Circle, Wadi Saqra, Sweifieh and Jubeiha.

The coffee menu runs from straight espresso shots to milk drinks and blended iced coffees, with a strong list of manual brews for those who like their coffee black. Single-origin roasts and house blends are available, and the brew bar is a good place to try a pour-over. The cafés also sell beans and home-brewing equipment, which makes them a useful stop if you want to take Jordanian-roasted coffee home. On the sweeter side, the caramel frappé is a local favourite.

The Weibdeh branch, on Al-Baouneyah Street, sits in one of Amman's most pleasant neighbourhoods for walking, with its old stone houses, galleries and small cafés. The branch on The Boulevard in Abdali is larger, with comfortable seating, a long communal wooden table and a big outdoor patio for people-watching, and it is a popular place to work, with big windows and power sockets. Choose the branch that suits your plans for the day.

Dimitri's suits coffee lovers, remote workers and anyone who wants a reliable flat white or filter coffee between sightseeing stops. If you prefer Arabic or Turkish coffee, Downtown cafés such as Jafra are a better bet; Dimitri's is about the modern, third-wave style.

From the Weibdeh branch it is a short walk to Darat al Funun and Paris Circle, and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts is close by. The Boulevard branch is in the Abdali development. Both are easy to reach by taxi from Jabal Amman or Downtown.

Because the chain is growing, check the current list of branches and hours before you set out. Dimitri's is also available for delivery through the Careem app in Amman, which is handy if you are staying in an apartment and want good coffee in the morning.
