Bar
Buža Bar
The better known of the bars clinging to the rocks outside Dubrovnik's southern walls, reached through a gap in the walls and famous for sunset views.
A nightclub inside the 15th-century Revelin Fortress by the Ploče Gate, hosting guest DJs into the early hours.
Good to know
Culture Club Revelin is Dubrovnik's best-known nightclub, and its setting is certainly memorable. It occupies the vaulted interior of Revelin Fortress, the detached fort that has guarded the Ploče Gate on the eastern side of the Old Town since the 15th century. The fortress was begun in 1462 and strengthened in the following century to designs by Antonio Ferramolino, and it survived the 1667 earthquake intact. Today, beneath those thick stone vaults, DJs play to crowds until dawn.
The club has been running for around 16 years and has built a reputation for bringing well-known international DJs to the city, particularly in summer. Expect DJ sets and a lively crowd of visitors and locals. Check the events calendar on the club's website for the line-up before you go, as headline nights sell out and ticket prices vary with the act.
Tickets can be bought online, and VIP tables can be booked in advance through the club's reservations line, which is worth doing for groups who want guaranteed space. The club opens late, from 22:30, and stays open until 05:30, so most people arrive after midnight once dinner and bars are finished. Dress smartly; while there is no published dress code, beachwear is out of place.
The music and crowds are at their peak from June to September. If you are visiting in winter, check the events page for dates rather than assuming it is open, as the busiest programme is in summer. Remember that the fortress also houses exhibitions of the Archaeological Museum by day, so this is a building with two very different lives.
Getting there is easy: the club is just outside the Ploče Gate at the eastern end of the Old Town, a short walk from Stradun. Keep your belongings secure in the crowd and pace yourself; the night goes on a long time. A night here is best treated as the finale of an evening rather than the main event, so have dinner and a drink in the Old Town first. Drink plenty of water, plan how you will get back to your accommodation in advance, and remember that the steep streets around the Old Town are harder going in the early hours. Bring identification, as clubs may ask for it at the door.
