Why we recommend it

The zoo in Ain Sebaa, in the north-east of Casablanca, has been part of family life in the city for generations, and after more than a decade of closure and rebuilding it reopened to the public on 30 December 2025. The redevelopment, coordinated by the city council and local authorities, turned an outdated site into a modern zoological park designed around immersive landscapes rather than visible cages.

The park covers around 13 to 15 hectares, according to different reports, and is divided into three themed zones representing Africa, Asia and South America. Around 500 animals live here. Among the headline species are elephants, lions, tigers, jaguars, giraffes, hyenas, a tapir, Nile crocodiles and two pygmy hippos, together with a large walk-through aviary. The animals were imported from the European Union and come from captive breeding programmes, and the zoo is run by a director and a general curator.

Facilities are designed for a full family day out. The Savannah restaurant and grill overlooks the African savannah zone, and there is a cafeteria, kiosks and a souvenir shop. The zoo also runs educational workshops for schools and activities for children, and further leisure attractions have been announced for the site. Tickets are sold at the zoo, with reduced rates for children, students and visitors with reduced mobility, and family packages.

The zoo opens at 10:00 and closes at 18:00 in winter and 20:00 in summer, with shorter hours of 10:00 to 17:00 during Ramadan. It is popular, especially at weekends and in school holidays, so arrive at opening time for a calmer visit and to see the animals while they are active. Allow at least half a day. Bring hats and water in the warmer months, as you will spend much of the visit outdoors.

The zoo is in the Ain Sebaa district, a taxi ride from the city centre; tell the driver Zoo d'Aïn Sebaâ. It is a good choice for families who want a break from monuments and markets, and it combines well with an evening on the Ain Diab Corniche on the other side of the city if you have a car or taxi.
