Best Things to do in Boston (2026)

Many of the best experiences in Boston are about walking and eating rather than ticketed attractions. The Freedom Trail is the obvious starting point: a 2.5-mile route marked in the pavement that links 16 historic sites between Boston Common and Bunker Hill. It is free to follow on your own, and the Freedom Trail Foundation runs guided tours with costumed guides if you want more background.

Food markets are close to the trail. Faneuil Hall Marketplace, with the Quincy Market food hall at its centre, has more than 25 places to eat and street performers through the day, while Boston Public Market on Hanover Street gathers more than 30 New England producers under one roof. Both work well for a quick lunch, and the market keeps later hours from Wednesday to Saturday.

In the Fenway, a tour of Fenway Park, the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball, runs all year and takes in the Green Monster and the stories behind the stadium; check the Red Sox schedule first, since game days change the timings. For an overview of the whole city, View Boston occupies the top floors of the Prudential Tower, with indoor and outdoor decks and a rooftop bar. Sunset is the most popular time there, so book ahead.
