Hotel
NIZUC Resort & Spa
A secluded 274-room resort on the mangrove-fringed point of Punta Nizuc, with private pool villas, two beaches, six restaurants and an ESPA spa.
A downtown hostel and budget hotel on Avenida Nader, a short walk from the ADO bus station, with a rooftop pool and bar, dorms and private doubles.
Good to know
Nomads is downtown Cancún's best-known budget base, a hostel and hotel on Avenida Carlos Nader with a rooftop pool and bar. Its main practical advantage is location: it is a three-minute walk from the main ADO bus station, which makes it convenient for anyone travelling around the region by long-distance bus. The beaches of the Hotel Zone are around 20 to 25 minutes away on the R-1 or R-2 bus.
The rooftop is the heart of the place. There is a pool and a bar with a sunset hangout area, and the hostel organises parties and events, including a weekly rooftop barbecue on Saturdays. Downstairs you will find a games room with a pool table, a common lounge and a shared kitchen, and a chef cooks dinner every day for guests who do not want to cook. Breakfast is not included, but continental and American options are available for an extra charge.
Rooms range from shared dormitories of six and eight beds, including a six-bed dorm for women only, to private rooms with a double bed and their own bathroom. Dorm beds have reading lights and privacy curtains. Private rooms are popular with couples. The tour desk can arrange excursions, and the hostel offers bike and car rental, which is useful for reaching the cenote route or the ruins independently.
Nomads suits party travellers, solo backpackers and couples on a budget who want a lively base close to transport. It is adults only. Reviews on booking platforms rate its location and value highly, but some guests mention noise, bed comfort and maintenance of the pool and WiFi, so light sleepers may prefer a quieter option. The same owners run a sister property nearby, Mezcal Hostel, formerly Nomads Boutique Hotel, which is calmer and has its own pool.
Staying downtown also puts you close to the city's everyday life: Mercado 28 on Avenida Xel-Há, the Parque de las Palapas and the taquerías of the centre are all within reach, and El Socio Naiz, a modern taquería with heirloom-corn tacos and craft cocktails, is on the same avenue. The tour desk works with a local agency, Party Rockers, for organised trips and nights out.
