Hotel
NIZUC Resort & Spa
A secluded 274-room resort on the mangrove-fringed point of Punta Nizuc, with private pool villas, two beaches, six restaurants and an ESPA spa.
A huge all-inclusive resort of 1,320 rooms at kilometre 16.5, with a long freeform pool, a dozen restaurants, nightly shows and a kids' club.
Good to know
Grand Oasis Cancún is the Hotel Zone's big, lively all-inclusive, a resort on a scale few others in the city match. It stands at kilometre 16.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán, with roughly a third of a mile of white-sand beach on one side and the boulevard on the other, and it shares its grounds with The Pyramid at Grand Oasis, a slightly more upmarket sister property. Downtown Cancún is about 20 minutes away and the airport about 25 minutes by car.
With 1,320 rooms, it is closer to a small town than a hotel. Rooms come in Grand Standard, Grand Ocean View and Grand Sunset View categories, and all have a balcony or terrace, air conditioning, a coffee maker and a flat-screen television. They were refreshed in 2019 but, according to Oyster's review, now feel fairly basic.
The pool is the centre of daytime life: a long freeform pool, among the longest in Cancún, with two swim-up bars, pool parties, games and DJ sessions. It gets crowded and loud, and loungers can be scarce at peak times. On the beach there are loungers and thatched palapas.
The all-inclusive plan covers a long list of places to eat and drink: twelve restaurants, two of them buffets and ten à la carte, serving pizza, Spanish tapas, Mexican-Japanese fusion and seafood among others, plus thirteen bars. Some restaurants are reserved for guests of The Pyramid, and the spa, which offers massages and salon services, costs extra. Expect queues at busy times.
Entertainment is where Grand Oasis stands out. The Oasis Arena stages nightly family-friendly shows, there is a theatre and a casino, and the adults-only Kinky Club puts on burlesque-style shows and live music. Children have an outdoor kids' club with daily activities, and there are tennis courts and a gym with beach views. Guests can also get discounted rates at a nearby golf course.
The resort suits families who want a kids' club and plenty to do, as well as groups of friends and couples who enjoy a busy pool and nightlife, all at a moderate price for an all-inclusive. Travellers who value design, peace and quiet or fine dining will be happier elsewhere. Free WiFi is limited to one device per guest.
The resort is on the same stretch of the boulevard as the Museo Maya, also at kilometre 16.5, so a morning of Maya history is easy to fit between pool days.
