Why we recommend it

Lahore Tikka House has served Pakistani food on Gerrard Street East since 1996 and is a long-standing name on the street. It was founded by Alnoor Sayani, and his son Adam Sayani now runs it. The restaurant describes itself as a home of authentic halal food, served in a lively, family-style setting.

The kitchen focuses on grilled meats and slow-cooked dishes. The website highlights chicken kebab, beef kebab, butter chicken, chicken karahi and nihari, along with garlic naan. Barbecued chicken tikka, including a whole tikka leg, is also on the menu, as the restaurant's name suggests. A review in Streets of Toronto praised the butter chicken, a 24-hour marinated beef stew and the spicy grilled peppers.

The restaurant has had a difficult few years. A fire in June 2023, and the water damage that followed, forced it to close, and during the closure a food truck in the car park kept serving regulars. The dining room reopened in late September 2024, so diners can once again eat in.

Lahore Tikka House is a casual, good-value place, best suited to families and groups who want to share several dishes with plenty of bread. The restaurant does not mention reservations on its website, so plan to walk in.

Food is also available to order online and through delivery apps including Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes, DoorDash and Ritual, which is useful if you are staying in an apartment. The restaurant lists two phone numbers on its website. Founder Alnoor Sayani died in 2013, and his wife helped keep the business going before their son took charge. The restaurant is known for its large seating area, which makes it easier than many places to bring a big group. In May 2024 the family opened a food truck called Tikka in the car park beside the rebuilding restaurant, serving grilled kebabs, curries, biryani bowls and chicken tikka; Adam Sayani described it as a way of giving back to the community while the dining room was closed.

The restaurant is at 1365 Gerrard Street East. Check opening hours before you travel, as they are not published on the website.
