Tour operator
Culinary Backstreets Istanbul
The neighbourhood food-tour company that began in Istanbul in 2009 as Istanbul Eats, known for its day-long Two Markets, Two Continents walk.
The Istanbul arm of Intrepid's Urban Adventures, running guided half-day and full-day walks through Sultanahmet, the Hippodrome and the bazaars.
Good to know
Urban Adventures is the day-tour brand of Intrepid Travel, and its Istanbul office runs Istanbul Uncovered in two lengths. The three-and-a-half-hour version is a guided walk through Sultanahmet taking in the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, the Sahaflar book bazaar and the Grand Bazaar, finishing with Turkish tea at a local tea house; on Sundays the Spice Bazaar replaces the closed Grand Bazaar.
The full-day Discovery version adds guided entry to Topkapı Palace and Hagia Sophia plus a sit-down lunch at a lokanta. Guides are local and English-speaking. It suits first-time visitors who want context before exploring alone; tips and extra food and drink are not included.
