Good to know
CiutCiut is a wine bar and wine shop in the heart of Kazimierz with a speciality that sets it apart from every other bar in Kraków: Georgian wine. It was founded by the Georgian sommelier Tornike Minadze and Maciej Popek, and Tornike personally selects the Georgian bottles on the list. Georgia has one of the oldest winemaking traditions in the world, and for many visitors an evening here is a first introduction to its grapes and styles.
The heart of the bar is its cellar, filled with qvevri, the large clay vessels buried in the ground in which Georgian wine is traditionally fermented and aged. CiutCiut makes wine in them following Georgian tradition, and guests can see the qvevri for themselves, which turns a glass of wine into something closer to a lesson in history and craft.
The list is not only Georgian. CiutCiut also stocks carefully chosen bottles from around the world, with wine by the glass and tasting sets that make it easy to compare several styles in one sitting. For those who are not drinking wine, there is whisky, vodka, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic options. Regular tasting sessions are held for anyone who wants to learn more, and live concerts keep the bar busy on some evenings. The shop side means you can buy a bottle of something you enjoyed to take home.
The bar is intimate and relaxed, popular with both locals and visitors, and it suits couples, small groups and curious solo travellers. It is a good alternative to the beer bars of Kazimierz for anyone who prefers a quieter conversation over a glass of wine. If you are new to Georgian wine, ask for guidance, and consider starting with a tasting set so you can compare several bottles before choosing a full glass.
CiutCiut opens every day at 13:00 and stays open until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and until 1:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar is a short walk from the restaurants and synagogues of the district and about fifteen minutes on foot from the Main Market Square. Nolio, the Neapolitan pizzeria, is further along the same street, which makes an easy pairing for dinner and a glass afterwards.
