Restaurant
1. RIJKS
The Rijksmuseum's own Michelin-starred restaurant, led by Joris Bijdendijk and serving the cuisine of the Low Countries with Dutch produce.
View details — RIJKSAmsterdam's restaurant scene covers every budget. At the top end, RIJKS beside the Rijksmuseum, Ciel Bleu on the 23rd floor of Hotel Okura and the greenhouse restaurant De Kas in Park Frankendael all hold Michelin stars, and each offers a distinctive setting as well as serious cooking. For something more traditional, Moeders on the Rozengracht and D'Vijff Vlieghen, in five 17th-century houses off the Spui, serve Dutch cooking in memorable rooms.
Indonesian food is part of the city's identity, and a rijsttafel of many small dishes at Blauw near Vondelpark is a classic group meal. Sea Palace, floating near Central Station since 1984, is known for dim sum, while Café-Restaurant Amsterdam in a former pumping station suits families. At the budget end, a paper cone of fries from Vleminckx and a sauce from its long list is a rite of passage, and Café de Klos has served its spare ribs since 1971. Book the starred restaurants well ahead, note that Café de Klos takes no reservations at all, and remember that many kitchens close earlier than in southern Europe, often around 10pm. Card payment is standard, and a few places accept cards only.
