Why we recommend it

Les Deux Magots has looked out over the square and the abbey church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés since 1884. The two carved Chinese figures that give the café its name still watch over the room, and its own literary award, the Prix des Deux Magots, keeps its long association with writers alive.

It opens every day from 7.30am until 1am, so it suits an early coffee and croissant as much as an evening drink. Weekend and holiday brunch runs from 11am to 3.30pm. A terrace table facing the church is the prize seat, and you will find one more easily early in the day.
