Café
Café de Flore
A Saint-Germain café dating from around 1887, famed as a haunt of Apollinaire, Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir and home of the Prix de Flore.
A Belle Époque tearoom opposite the Tuileries, founded in 1903 and best known for its thick L'Africain hot chocolate and Mont-Blanc pastry.
Good to know
Founded in 1903 by the confectioner Anton Rumpelmayer and his son René, Angelina's flagship tearoom on Rue de Rivoli faces the Tuileries Garden under the arcades. The room is all mirrors, mouldings and marble tables, the setting for its two signatures: L'Africain, a famously thick hot chocolate, and the Mont-Blanc, a chestnut-cream meringue pastry.
Queues can form at weekends and in winter, when the hot chocolate is in highest demand. Visit on a weekday morning for a quieter table, or buy pastries and chocolate at the counter to take away into the gardens across the road.
