Bar
Ruby
A cocktail bar in a townhouse from 1740 on the canal opposite Slotsholmen, known for carefully made drinks and a timeless, living-room atmosphere.
The original Mikkeller Bar, a cellar bar in Vesterbro pouring Mikkeller's own beers and guest taps, with Danish cheese, sausages and vintage bottles.
Good to know
Mikkeller Bar on Viktoriagade is where the international Mikkeller story began. Mikkeller started as the project of two home brewers and grew into one of the best-known names in craft beer, and since 2007 it has been run by Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, a so-called gypsy brewer who brews his beers at breweries in Denmark, elsewhere in Europe and in the United States rather than in a single brewery of his own. This cellar bar in Vesterbro was the very first Mikkeller Bar, and there are now Mikkeller bars and restaurants across Copenhagen and in cities around the world.
The bar was designed as a cosy place for beer lovers, and its interior mixes the feel of a traditional Danish pub with a light Scandinavian look. Most of the taps pour Mikkeller's own beers, alongside guest beers from other respected breweries, and the list changes constantly, from pale ales to sour and spontaneously fermented beers. The bar is also known for its collection of vintage Mikkeller bottles. To eat, there are snacks such as Danish cheese and handmade sausages.
The bar suits beer enthusiasts, curious visitors who want to taste something new, and small groups of friends. It is compact, so it fills up quickly in the evening and at weekends. If you are new to craft beer, ask the staff for a recommendation based on the styles you usually enjoy, and pace yourself if you plan to try several beers.
Tables can be booked by email for groups of up to ten, which is worth doing if you are coming with friends on a Friday or Saturday. Opening hours are published on Mikkeller's website, so check them before you go. Prices reflect the specialist nature of the beers and are in line with other craft beer bars in the city.
Viktoriagade is a short side street in Vesterbro, a few minutes' walk from Copenhagen Central Station and close to Istedgade and the Meatpacking District. Lidkoeb on Vesterbrogade and the restaurants of Kødbyen are within walking distance. For a larger Mikkeller experience, the company also runs Mikkeller and Friends on Stefansgade in Nørrebro.
Remember that table bookings are limited to parties of up to ten, so larger groups should split up or choose a bigger venue.
