Restaurant
Lokál Dlouhááá
A long, lively Old Town beer hall from the Ambiente group serving tank beer and well-made Czech pub classics such as fried cheese, schnitzel and sausages.
A long-running Lesser Town restaurant in a 16th-century house, known for roast duck, venison and wild boar in small, intimate dining rooms.
Good to know
U Modré kachničky, At the Blue Duckling, has served traditional Czech cooking in a 16th-century house on Nebovidská Street in the Lesser Town since 1993. The blue duck on its sign is a historic house symbol that the restaurant adopted as its name, and duck and game have been the focus of the menu from the start. A second branch on Michalská Street in the Old Town opened in 2000, but the Lesser Town original is the more atmospheric of the two.
The menu concentrates on the dishes Bohemian cooking does best. Duck appears in many forms: smoked duck breast as a starter, duck broth, grilled foie gras and, above all, roast duck with caraway and chestnut stuffing or with apples, raisins and ginger. Game includes marinated venison, wild boar loin with mushrooms and flambéed fallow deer with a port and cranberry sauce. A tasting menu of half portions lets you try several dishes, with an optional wine pairing. The restaurant says it works strictly with local meat suppliers and prime ingredients.
The dining rooms are small and intimate, and the restaurant pays close attention to detail in both its menu and its interior, which makes it a good choice for a romantic dinner or a special evening with friends. It is quieter and more refined than a beer hall, but still relaxed. Prices are higher than in a local pub, reflecting the setting and the ingredients, but this is one of the most reliable places in the Lesser Town to try classic Czech roast duck.
The restaurant is open daily from 12:00 to 23:00, so it works for a late lunch after visiting Prague Castle as well as dinner. Book ahead for evenings, especially at weekends, through the online booking system, by phone or by email. Allergen information is available on request. Vegetarians will find limited options.
Nebovidská is a quiet lane in the southern part of the Lesser Town, near the Church of Our Lady Victorious and the Infant of Prague, and a few minutes from Kampa Island and the Lesser Town end of Charles Bridge. The Hellichova tram stop on Újezd is about three minutes away, and from there trams run to the National Theatre and the castle.
