A cocktail bar on Harrington Street in The Rocks inspired by 1960s Las Vegas, known for theatrical, film-inspired drinks and attentive hospitality.
Good to know
Maybe Sammy is a cocktail bar on Harrington Street in The Rocks, styled after the glamour of 1960s Las Vegas. The bar places hospitality at the centre of everything it does, and the experience is meant to feel like a night out from another era, with a sense of occasion from the moment you walk in.
The drinks are the main event. The menu features theatrical cocktails, many inspired by films and presented with a flourish, alongside classics made with care. If you are unsure what to order, tell the bartenders what flavours you usually enjoy and let them suggest something. Expect cocktails to be priced at the premium end of the Sydney market. Presentation is part of the fun, in keeping with the bar's theatrical style, so expect drinks that look as considered as they taste.
The bar opens from 17:00 until midnight from Tuesday to Thursday, and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Bookings can be made online through the bar's website, and reserving is recommended for weekends, when walk-in space can be limited. Group functions and events can be arranged through the wider Maybe Group's events team.
Note the charges before you settle the bill. A discretionary 10% service charge applies to orders, and there are surcharges of 10% on Sundays and 15% on public holidays, which is common in Sydney hospitality. Dress is smart casual, and the atmosphere is lively rather than quiet, especially later in the evening.
Maybe Sammy suits couples, groups celebrating a special occasion and anyone who enjoys well-made cocktails and a bit of theatre. It is not a place for a cheap drink, but it is a memorable stop on a night out in The Rocks. Allow an hour or two to enjoy a couple of drinks at an unhurried pace.
Harrington Street runs through the heart of The Rocks, a short walk from Wynyard and Circular Quay stations. The bar is close to the Shangri-La and Park Hyatt hotels, and several historic pubs, including the Lord Nelson and The Glenmore, are within a few minutes' walk, so it fits easily into an evening exploring the area's bars. The Harbour Bridge walkway and the Museum of Contemporary Art are also nearby for daytime sightseeing before an evening drink.
