Best Things to do in Kuala Lumpur (2026)

Some of Kuala Lumpur's most memorable experiences have little to do with ticketed sights. Start with a view: KL Tower on Bukit Nanas has an indoor observation deck and an open-air Sky Deck, and it is many visitors' favourite spot for photographing the Petronas Twin Towers. Right beside it, the KL Forest Eco Park protects a patch of old rainforest with a free canopy walk, so the two combine easily into a single morning. In the old city, a self-guided heritage walk around Merdeka Square takes in the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, which reopened to the public in 2026 with galleries and cafes, and the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery.

Central Market, the 1937 Art Deco hall beside Chinatown, is the best place to browse for crafts and souvenirs, and it is handy in the midday heat or rain. After dark, head to Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang, where hawker stalls fill the street every evening and keep serving until very late; walk the length of it before choosing a stall and confirm seafood prices before ordering. Mornings are best for outdoor walks, afternoons for indoor markets and evenings for food streets. Public transport links most of these places, and a ride-hailing car is cheap for short hops.
