Why we recommend it

CP Lounge is an old Ubud favourite, a large dining and entertainment complex halfway along Jalan Monkey Forest, next to the town's central football field. It is one of the few places in Ubud that stays open into the early hours, and it covers a lot of ground: bar, restaurant, live music venue and late-night hangout in one. The venue is owned and run by a member of one of Ubud's royal families, who sometimes hosts in person.

The main space is a semi-open hall designed to resemble a grand Balinese meeting pavilion, with outdoor garden seating under the stars and cosier, softly lit corners for smaller groups. There is a large swimming pool, pool tables and a makeshift dance floor, which gives it the feel of a social club as much as a bar.

Entertainment varies through the week, with live music starting early and DJs taking over later, playing anything from chilled reggae to full dance sets, and there are hookah lounges for a slower pace. Live bands play a wide range of genres, and there are DJs, karaoke and Latin dancing nights, as well as Balinese dance performances. The bar serves martinis and cocktails at prices that are relatively low for Ubud, and the food menu includes tapas, grilled steaks, pizza and pasta, so it is possible to spend a whole evening here.

CP Lounge suits groups of friends, solo travellers and anyone who wants a casual, late night out in the centre of town without having to travel. It opens in the early afternoon, so it is also possible to come for a meal by the pool before the evening entertainment starts. Check the venue's social media for current events, as the programme changes.

CP Lounge is a short walk down the street from The Blue Door, a sports bar by day and nightclub by night, so the strip makes an easy late-night circuit. Its central position on Jalan Monkey Forest puts it within walking distance of most guesthouses and hotels in the centre and of the other bars on the street, including The Laughing Buddha and No Más. Jalan Monkey Forest runs north to Ubud Palace and south to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary.
