1. Star Ferry
The historic green-and-white ferries that have crossed Victoria Harbour since 1888, linking Tsim Sha Tsui with Central and Wan Chai for a few Hong Kong dollars.
View details — Star FerrySome of the best things to do in Hong Kong cost very little. The Star Ferry has crossed Victoria Harbour since 1888 and is still the simplest way to see the skyline from the water, especially at dusk. Temple Street Night Market in Yau Ma Tei and Jordan is liveliest after dark, with stalls selling clothes, jade and souvenirs and plenty of street food, so go hungry and bargain politely.
For a change of pace, the Dragon's Back trail on Hong Kong Island is a 4.8-kilometre ridge walk with sea views that takes about two and a half hours, reached by bus from Shau Kei Wan. On Lantau, the Ngong Ping 360 cable car climbs from Tung Chung to the plateau of the Big Buddha in around 25 minutes, and it is busiest at weekends, so arrive early. In Central, Tai Kwun has turned the old police station, magistracy and prison into a centre for heritage exhibitions, art and dining. Combine Tai Kwun with nearby Man Mo Temple and the cafés of Central for an easy day on foot, and keep the ferry and the night market for the evening.
