Restaurant
1. Cuisine Wat Damnak
Chef Joannes Riviere's dinner-only restaurant in a traditional wooden house, serving regularly changing eight-course tasting menus of seasonal Cambodian produce.
View details — Cuisine Wat DamnakSiem Reap is one of the best places in Cambodia to eat, with a food scene that ranges from market stalls to some of the country's most ambitious kitchens. At the top end, Cuisine Wat Damnak serves eight-course tasting menus of seasonal Cambodian produce in a wooden house, and Embassy offers modern Khmer set menus prepared by an all-female team. Malis, on Pokambor Avenue, is a large and comfortable introduction to Cambodian cooking, while Lum Orng, on the edge of town, cooks farm-to-table dishes with produce from the chef's own gardens.
For relaxed meals, Mahob Khmer Cuisine and The Sugar Palm serve classic home-style dishes such as fish amok, and several restaurants are run as training kitchens for young Cambodians. HAVEN, Sala Bai and SPOONS combine good food at fair prices with programmes that help students into hospitality jobs, so a meal also supports local people. Por Cuisine adds Apsara dance and Bokator performances to a Khmer dinner. Many of the best restaurants are on the east side of the river in Wat Bo and Wat Damnak, a short tuk-tuk ride from the Old Market. Book ahead for tasting menus and in the high season, and note that some restaurants close one day a week.
