Bar
Salon Lyautey Rooftop at Hotel Sahrai
The rooftop lounge bar of Hotel Sahrai, with a fireplace, Moroccan wines and views over Fes, a relaxed spot for sunset drinks.
A late-opening Lebanese restaurant and bar at Hotel Sahrai, with wine, cocktails and a terrace on the hill above Fez, open nightly until 2am.
Good to know
Jungle is one of the few places in Fes where you can have a proper night out with dinner, drinks and a view, all in one place. It is part of Hotel Sahrai, the contemporary five-star hotel on the hill at Dhar El Mehraz, and it combines a Lebanese restaurant with a lively bar. The space is designed in lush greens and gold, with seating set into niches, and a terrace looks out over the city below.
The kitchen serves fine Lebanese cuisine, a welcome change from the Moroccan menus that dominate the city. Wine and cocktails are served alongside homemade lemonade, which matters in Fes, where alcohol is not widely available in the medina.
Jungle opens every day from 7pm until 2am, which makes it one of the latest-opening venues in the city. Arrive early in the evening if you want to see the view in the last of the light, then stay on as the atmosphere builds. Booking is recommended, particularly at weekends and for terrace tables, and you can reserve through the hotel. The hotel describes the setting as chic, so dress smartly rather than in sightseeing clothes.
The rest of the hotel adds to the evening. Salon Lyautey, the rooftop lounge bar, is a quieter place for a glass of Moroccan wine by the fireplace, and Arcades, a white marble bar under arches, is good for a drink earlier in the day. If you are celebrating, private dining and events can be arranged.
Because Sahrai is on the hillside above the city rather than in the medina, you will need a taxi to get there and back; ask the hotel to call one at the end of the night rather than looking for one on the street. The drive from Bab Bou Jeloud or the Ville Nouvelle is short. Jungle suits couples, groups of friends and travellers who have spent several evenings in quiet riads and want something livelier. It is also a good choice for a last night in Fes, when you may want to celebrate the end of a trip somewhere with a view and a full drinks list. Non-drinkers are well looked after with homemade lemonade and other soft drinks.
