Why we recommend it

Xoxi Cancún, formerly known as Xoximilco, is Grupo Xcaret's festive evening on the water near Cancún. It is run by the same company behind the Xcaret parks and sits on the Cancún to Puerto Morelos federal highway at kilometre 307, a short way south of the city.

The evening follows a set programme. Check-in starts at 19:00, with a welcome stand serving flavoured waters, and guests are drawn into a playful kermés-style wedding before being handed the house drink, the Xorbito. Then everyone boards the trajineras, the colourful boats that give the experience its character, for a ride with an open bar of tequila, rum, vodka, beer, soft drinks and flavoured waters. Live mariachi musicians play as the boats move along, and a host leads games and stories.

Food is part of the package. A tasting dinner introduces representative Mexican dishes, and there is a dance show featuring luchadores. After the boat ride, the party carries on with music and dancing in a festive village setting until the experience ends at 23:00.

Xoxi Cancún runs from Tuesday to Saturday. The minimum age is five, and children aged five to eleven pay a reduced price on park and tour tickets. Grupo Xcaret offers discounts for booking online in advance, with bigger savings the earlier you book, and for combining two or more of its parks and tours; a weekday promotion has also been advertised. Its customer service team can be reached by phone, WhatsApp, Messenger and web chat every day from 7:00 to 22:00.

The experience suits groups of friends, couples and families with older children who want a lively, very Mexican evening with music, food and drink included in one price. It is less suited to anyone after a quiet dinner, as the atmosphere is designed to be festive and loud, with singing and dancing on the boats.

Xoxi's website has a guide to getting there, and transport options should be checked when booking, as the venue is outside the city on the highway south. It pairs well with a daytime visit to the Ruta de los Cenotes, which also starts near Puerto Morelos, or with a day at the beach before an evening out.
