Good to know
Puelo Coffee Roasters is a neighbourhood café and roastery in Vitacura with an award-winning design. It is where all the coffee sold under the Puelo brand is roasted, so a visit lets you drink coffee a few metres from where the beans were roasted. The roastery had been running for only a few months when the founders described it to the press in December 2024, and within a year it had won an international award.
The business was founded by Tomás Guilisasti, Benjamín Bravo and Tomás Bravo, with Guilisasti leading the coffee side, and it sits in the Las Nieves area of Vitacura. Instead of a traditional gas roaster, Puelo uses a fully electric, high-tech German machine that can operate in a residential neighbourhood, which the founders described as the first of its kind in Latin America. The roaster lets them adjust the roast profile for each bean according to its origin, and the range has included four different coffees.
The space itself has won international recognition. In 2025 Puelo received the Coffee Design Award from the Specialty Coffee Association in the Spaces category, which honours the best-designed café or roastery of the year. The award recognised coffee spaces that combine creativity, innovation and consistency of approach, and noted Puelo's cultural impact on specialty coffee in its community. Coffee lovers and design enthusiasts will both find it worth a detour.
The founders also run a sister café and a brunch-focused restaurant about two blocks from the roastery, so if you want a fuller breakfast, ask the staff for directions. Puelo sells its coffee by subscription through its website, and bags of beans make a good souvenir to take home, since they are roasted right here.
The roastery is easiest to reach by taxi, ride-hailing app or bus. It fits well into a day spent in Vitacura, where Boragó, Ambrosía, Casa Las Cujas and Aquí Está Coco are among the restaurants, or a morning before visiting the Costanera Center and Sky Costanera in neighbouring Providencia.
Puelo suits specialty coffee enthusiasts, remote workers looking for a good espresso and anyone curious about how a modern roastery works. Check the company's website or social media for current opening hours before travelling across town.
