Chef Patrick Kriss's Michelin-starred restaurant on the third floor of 163 Spadina Avenue, serving changing four-, six- and ten-course tasting menus of contemporary French cooking.
A weekday fine-dining restaurant on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower, cooking seasonal Canadian ingredients with a tasting menu, à la carte dinner and city views.
Good to know
Canoe sits on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower in the Financial District and is part of the Oliver and Bonacini restaurant group. Its theme is Canadian produce, summed up in its own line about being inspired by Canada's raw, rich land, and the cooking draws on ingredients and producers from across the country. The height gives the dining room a broad view over the city.
The centrepiece for many guests is Taste Canoe, a seasonal tasting menu that changes with what is available. Recent courses have included venison tartare with juniper and pickled elderberry, Cookstown beets, roasted scallop with carrot and ginger, a 54-hour short rib and a sweet potato dessert, with optional supplements and wine pairings. The à la carte dinner menu has a raw bar with oysters, cold poached lobster and burrata to start, followed by mains such as Haida Gwaii albacore tuna, lamb saddle, olive oil poached trout and Canadian prime strip loin. At lunch there is a three-course prix fixe as well as dishes such as steak frites and Atlantic salmon.
The wine list puts Canadian winemakers alongside international producers, with sparkling, white, rosé and red wines by the glass. The bar serves cocktails with a Canadian twist, spirit-free drinks and bar bites such as beef sliders and a snow crab salad.
Canoe is a weekday restaurant. Lunch runs from 11:30am to 2pm and dinner from 5pm to 9:30pm, Monday to Friday, with the bar open from 11:30am to 11:30pm, and it is closed to the public at weekends. Reservations are taken online up to three months ahead for parties of up to 12; bar seats can be booked from 6:30pm, and walk-ins are accepted when there is space. The Chef's Rail seats serve the tasting menu only, and groups of 9 to 12 take a Chef's Choice menu.
Lunch also brings starters such as wild mushroom soup, salmon and beef tartares and a sweet corn and zucchini salad, with mains including chicken suprême and lamb sirloin. Desserts include birch panna cotta and white chocolate cheesecake, and there is a daily selection of Canadian cheeses for anyone who would rather finish on something savoury.
Vegetarian and pescatarian tasting menus can be arranged with advance notice by calling the restaurant. Canoe suits business lunches, celebrations and visitors who want a Canadian-focused meal with a view. Private dining and weddings are also offered.
