Hotel
The Peninsula Hong Kong
Hong Kong's grande dame, opened on Salisbury Road in 1928, famous for afternoon tea in The Lobby, its green Rolls-Royce fleet and the Philippe Starck-designed Felix.
A harbourfront luxury hotel in Victoria Dockside, opened in 2019 and named the world's best hotel by The World's 50 Best Hotels in 2025.
Good to know
Rosewood Hong Kong opened on 17 March 2019 in Victoria Dockside, a waterfront development on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. It stands on the site of Holt's Wharf, a godown terminal dating from 1910, and was designed by the architects Kohn Pedersen Fox, with interiors by the hospitality designer Tony Chi. In October 2025 it was ranked first in The World's 50 Best Hotels, having previously placed in the top three twice, and it has held three Michelin Keys since 2025.
The hotel has 413 rooms and suites in a tower on the harbourfront. At the very top of the price range is the Harbour House penthouse, described as the most expensive hotel suite in Hong Kong. The hotel is rated as a five-star luxury property.
There are eleven restaurants and bars, including The Butterfly Room, Butterfly Patisserie and Holt's Café, which takes its name from the old wharf. Between them, guests can eat well without leaving the building, and it is sensible to book ahead for dinner.
As one of the newest luxury hotels in the city, Rosewood appeals to travellers who want contemporary design rather than heritage. It suits couples, design lovers and business travellers who want a Kowloon base with easy access to the harbourfront. Prices are high throughout.
The hotel's ranking at the top of The World's 50 Best Hotels list has made it one of the most talked-about places to stay in Asia, so demand is high and the best room categories sell out early in peak months. If you are travelling for a special occasion, mention it when you book. Compare rates directly with the hotel against packages that include breakfast or dining credit, and check cancellation terms carefully, as luxury hotels in the city often apply stricter conditions over Christmas, Chinese New Year and major trade fairs.
The location puts you within walking distance of Tsim Sha Tsui's waterfront, shopping and museums. The Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Star Ferry pier are a short walk along Salisbury Road, and The Peninsula is a neighbour. The hotel is owned by Rosewood Hotel Group, part of New World Development, which also developed Victoria Dockside. Check the hotel's website for current offers and dining reservations, and book well ahead for weekends and holiday periods.
