Bar
Buža Bar
The better known of the bars clinging to the rocks outside Dubrovnik's southern walls, reached through a gap in the walls and famous for sunset views.
A live jazz bar on the small square beside the cathedral, founded in 1978 by a Dubrovnik musician and still run by his family.
Good to know
Troubadour has been the home of jazz in Dubrovnik since 1978, when it was established by the local musician Marko Brešković. Known for many years as Troubadour Jazz Café and now as Troubadour Jazz Brasserie, it stands on Bunićeva poljana, the small square beside the cathedral, and on summer evenings its outdoor tables and the sound of live music make it one of the most atmospheric corners of the Old Town.
The music is the main reason to come. Regular live jazz sessions take place on the square, with performers ranging from local musicians to visiting players, and the setting under the stone facades gives even a quiet trio a special feel. Schedules can change, so check the venue's social media for the week's programme. Alongside the music, the bar serves wine, beer and a full range of drinks, and food is available, so you can make an evening of it.
Since a change of ownership in 2022, the venue has been run by one of Brešković's sons, keeping the family connection alive. In the warmer months most people sit outside on the square. Seating fills up on busy summer evenings, so arrive early for a good table or make a reservation, which the venue accepts.
Troubadour is open daily, currently until 01:00, although published listings differ on morning opening times. Outdoor tables are a feature of the warmer months, so in winter expect a more limited set-up and check opening before you go. Prices are typical of the Old Town.
It suits couples, music lovers and anyone looking for a relaxed evening without the volume of a club. Allow an hour or two. The cathedral, the Rector's Palace and Gundulić Square are all within a minute or two's walk, so Troubadour is a natural place to end a day of sightseeing in the southern part of the Old Town. Because the square is small, the music carries well without amplification overwhelming conversation, which makes it a good choice for couples and small groups. If you are visiting in the shoulder season, an early evening drink here before dinner is a pleasant way to see the square when it is calmer and the musicians are setting up.
