A five-star boutique hotel inside Tivoli Gardens, in a Moorish-style palace from 1909, with 38 rooms and suites, several restaurants and a rooftop pool.
Good to know
Nimb is the only hotel inside Tivoli Gardens, and it occupies one of the most distinctive buildings in Copenhagen, a Moorish-style palace that opened in 1909. The building was designed by Tivoli's director and architect Knud Arne Petersen and takes its name from Wilhelm and Louise Nimb, a restaurant-owning couple whose daughters ran the building when it opened. After a major renovation the hotel opened in 2008, and it describes itself today as a five-star superior boutique hotel.
The hotel has 38 rooms and suites, each individually decorated, so no two stays feel quite the same. Staying here puts Tivoli right on your doorstep, so you can be among the rides and lights within minutes. A roof terrace with a pool is one of the hotel's best-known features and a rare luxury in central Copenhagen.
Eating and drinking are central to Nimb. Nimb Brasserie serves French cuisine, Fru Nimb specialises in Danish open sandwiches, Nimb Bar is the place for cocktails, and Nimb Roof offers what the hotel calls the city's most magnificent sunsets during the summer months. Cakenhagen, the hotel's cake shop and café, adds a sweet stop within the gardens.
Nimb suits couples, honeymooners and families who want a luxurious base with Tivoli on the doorstep. It is ideal during Tivoli's summer, Halloween and Christmas seasons, when the gardens are at their most atmospheric. As a small hotel with high demand, it books up early for weekends and December, so reserve well in advance and ask about rooms facing the gardens if the view matters to you.
The hotel's entrance is on Bernstorffsgade, directly opposite Copenhagen Central Station, which makes arrival by train from the airport very straightforward. City Hall Square, Strøget and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek are all within a short walk.
The site has a long history of its own. A Chinese-style bazaar stood here when Tivoli opened in 1843, and the building that replaced it was demolished in 1908 to make way for the new Central Station, which led to the present palace. The hotel has won international recognition, including a place on Condé Nast Traveller's list of the world's best hotels in 2009 and the title of Hotel of the Year from Small Luxury Hotels of the World in 2015. Parking is by valet only, so arriving by train or taxi is simpler.
