Casa De Carli

Casa De Carli is a family-run Italian restaurant on Vězeňská Street, between Old Town Square and the Jewish Quarter. Chef Matteo De Carli and his wife Lenka Hermanová have run it since 2012, after working in restaurants around the world, and it gained a Michelin star in the 2026 Michelin Guide for the Czech Republic. It is a good example of how Prague's restaurant scene has broadened well beyond Czech cuisine.

The cooking has a North Italian bias and is built on careful technique and generous flavour. Bread, pasta and ice cream are all made in-house, and pasta is one of the strengths of the menu. Daily specials are worth asking about, and the Michelin inspectors singled out dishes such as turbot baked in a puff pastry crust. For a fuller experience, the chef offers tasting menus of five, six or seven courses. The wine list is extensive and leans towards Italy, with a walk-in wine fridge and a wall of bottles on display.

The dining room is modern and simple, with an open show kitchen, and in good weather there are tables outside on the cobbled street. In the basement, a chef's table seats up to eight people, with the chef cooking in front of the guests, which is a good option for a celebration or a small group of food lovers. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed for a starred restaurant, and service is friendly.

Casa De Carli opens on weekdays only, for lunch from 11:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 23:00, and is closed at weekends. Plan your visit accordingly, and book ahead directly with the restaurant, particularly for dinner and for the chef's table. Lunch is a more relaxed way to sample the pasta. It suits couples, small groups and anyone who wants a break from dumplings and sauces.

Vězeňská is a short street off Dlouhá and Kozí, about five minutes' walk from Old Town Square. The nearest tram stop is Dlouhá třída, and Staroměstská metro station on line A is close by. The synagogues of the Jewish Museum, the Convent of St Agnes and the shops of Pařížská Street are all nearby.
