Captain Cook Cruises
A harbour cruise company founded in 1970, running sightseeing, hop-on hop-off, lunch and dinner cruises on Sydney Harbour from Circular Quay.
Guided climbs over the arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from a base in The Rocks, with several routes including a summit climb and an Aboriginal storytelling climb.
Good to know
BridgeClimb takes small groups of visitors up and over the steel arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the world's largest steel arch bridge, on guided climbs that start from its base at 3 Cumberland Street in The Rocks. From the top of the arch, the views take in the whole harbour, the Opera House, the city skyline and, on clear days, the Blue Mountains to the west.
Several experiences are offered. The Summit Climb follows the upper arch to the top and spends about two hours on the bridge, while the Summit Insider Climb takes about an hour and forty minutes. The Ultimate Climb covers the full length of the bridge in around two and a half hours on the structure. The Burrawa Aboriginal Climb is led by an Aboriginal storyteller and climb leader and shares First Nations perspectives on the harbour, and the UnderBridge Walk explores the structure beneath the road deck in about an hour on the bridge. Seasonal climbs, including a Vivid Sydney climb, and Mandarin-guided climbs are also available.
Every experience begins with a safety briefing and preparation of about fifty to sixty minutes, so total durations range from two and a half to three and a half hours. All climbers wear the BridgeClimb suit, which is provided, and are breathalysed during the briefing; you must have a blood-alcohol reading below 0.05. Cameras, phones and other loose items are not allowed on the bridge, and lockers are provided. Guides take photographs, which can be bought as packages.
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and enclosed rubber-soled shoes such as running or hiking shoes. Children can take part from eight years old if they are at least 1.2 metres tall and climb with a parent or guardian. Guests aged 75 or over, and pregnant guests under 24 weeks, need a doctor's certificate of fitness.
The climb suits adventurous travellers, couples marking a special occasion and families with older children. Dawn, day, twilight and night climbs give different light and atmosphere, and twilight is popular for watching the city lights come on. Book in advance, particularly for weekends and holiday periods, as times sell out.
The base is in The Rocks, about ten minutes' walk from Circular Quay and Wynyard stations. Allow time before or after to explore the area's lanes and pubs, or walk across the bridge on the free footpath to compare the view.
