Restaurant
Bennelong
A contemporary Australian restaurant inside one of the Sydney Opera House shells, with a three-course dining room menu, à la carte counter seating and a bar.
An Italian restaurant and bar above the Bondi Icebergs ocean pool, with views along the full length of Bondi Beach.
Good to know
Icebergs Dining Room and Bar sits on the headland at the southern end of Bondi Beach, directly above the Bondi Icebergs ocean pool. Its glass frontage looks along the full length of the beach and out over the Pacific, and the view of swimmers doing laps in the pool below, with waves breaking against its walls, is one of the best-known images of Sydney. The restaurant was founded by Maurice Terzini, who drew on his Italian background for its menu.
The kitchen serves a seasonal Italian menu with a strong emphasis on seafood and Tuscan-inspired flavours, mixing traditional and contemporary dishes. Antipasti built around fresh seafood are a good place to start, followed by pasta and fish or meat dishes from the main menu. The wine list includes Italian and Australian bottles, and the bar is known for its cocktails.
The restaurant offers all-day dining from midday from Sunday to Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays there are separate sittings, with lunch from midday and dinner from 18:30. Booking is recommended, particularly for weekend lunch and summer evenings. Ask for a window table if you want the full view, and be aware that these are the most requested seats.
The bar is a more casual way to experience the setting, and an early evening drink as the light changes over the beach is a popular choice. The atmosphere is lively and relaxed, with professional service, and smart casual dress suits the room. The restaurant has disabled access; contact it in advance for details.
Below the restaurant, the Bondi Icebergs pool is open to the public for a fee, so it is possible to combine a swim with lunch upstairs. The pool is one of the best known ocean baths in Australia, and its swimming club dates back to 1929.
Icebergs suits couples, celebrations and visitors who want to combine a good Italian meal with a view of Bondi. Lunch is the best time to see the beach in full daylight, while dinner shows the coastline in the evening light. The restaurant is at 1 Notts Avenue, a short walk from the bus stops on Campbell Parade. Bondi Beach is reached by bus from Bondi Junction station or directly from the city. The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk starts just below the building, so lunch here works well before or after a stroll along the clifftops.
