Bar
The SG Club
The SG Group's multi-level Shibuya cocktail bar, blending Japanese and Western drinking culture, with a casual ground floor and a moody basement.
A tight grid of narrow lanes in Kabukicho holding around 300 tiny bars, many seating only a handful of drinkers, each with its own theme.
Good to know
Golden Gai is a few narrow lanes on the edge of Kabukicho where around 300 bars are packed side by side, many of them barely bigger than a cupboard with a counter and a few stools. Each has its own personality and owner, and while some actively welcome visitors, others cater mainly to regulars, so a friendly greeting goes a long way.
Many bars charge a cover fee on top of drinks, so check the sign or ask before you sit down; the district's festivals sometimes waive it. Photography is restricted: the lanes are private roads, and filming in the area requires permission from the shopkeepers' association, so keep your camera away and respect the small rooms. It is liveliest from late evening, and Shinjuku-sanchome and Shinjuku stations are both a short walk away.
