Café
Chye Seng Huat Hardware
Specialty coffee bar and roastery in a former hardware shop on Tyrwhitt Road, one of the cafés that shaped Singapore's third-wave coffee scene.
The original Tiong Bahru Bakery in the 1930s estate of Tiong Bahru, known for its croissants and kouign amann.
Tiong Bahru Bakery's Eng Hoon Street shop sits in the low-rise Tiong Bahru estate, one of Singapore's most charming residential neighbourhoods, with its curved, pre-war Art Deco blocks. The bakery focuses on French-style viennoiserie, and its croissants and buttery, caramelised kouign amann are the items regulars come back for, alongside coffee and simple breakfast plates.
Weekend mornings are busy, so go on a weekday for a calmer table. Afterwards, walk round the estate's quiet streets and visit Tiong Bahru Market for a local breakfast or a look at the wet market. The bakery opens at 7.30am on weekdays and 8am at weekends, and Tiong Bahru MRT station is around ten minutes away on foot.
7.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The croissants and kouign amann are the signature pastries.
