Good to know
Loy La Long is one of Bangkok's most unusual places to stay: a weathered teak house built out over the river within the grounds of Wat Pathum Khongkha, at the edge of Chinatown. The house appeared in the 2009 Thai film Bangkok Traffic Love Story, and its quirky charm has made it a favourite with independent travellers.
There are just six room types, each named after a colour, from a compact single to a duplex family room, most with river views. Breakfast is included, and the riverside living room and verandas are lovely places to watch boats go by. The guesthouse can arrange bicycle and canal tours. Book early, as availability is limited, and note that check-in is from 14:00.
