Why we recommend it

Paradox is a cocktail lounge in the Shree Laxmi Woollen Mills compound on Shakti Mills Lane in Mahalaxmi, run by the team behind the tasting-menu restaurant Masque. It opened as a place for experimental drinking and was named in the Tatler Best 20 Bars India list in 2026. The design mixes Art Deco elegance with a touch of fantasy: a glowing open kitchen sits on the ground floor, and upstairs is a burlwood-lined cocktail lounge.

The drinks are led by head mixologist Ankush Gamre, and the menu is built around technical pours and cocktails on tap, with the aim of offering something new on each visit. Signature drinks have included Cthulu, Spice Merchant and Elysium, as well as more unusual creations such as 168 Hours, which uses kimchi, and Shipwreck, a tequila-based drink with bonito flakes. If you are curious about modern bartending techniques, this is one of the most interesting bars in the city.

Food comes from Varun Totlani, head chef at Masque, so the bar snacks are well above average. Dishes have included halloumi with poha, mud crab with crispy boondi and charred bone marrow with thecha. For a group, the Thai steamboat, a hot pot-style dish of meats and vegetables, is a good choice. A common approach is to eat downstairs and then move up to the lounge as the night goes on.

Paradox suits couples, small groups and cocktail enthusiasts who want something more inventive than a classic hotel bar. It is moody and stylish rather than loud. Booking ahead is wise for weekend evenings. Prices are in line with Mumbai's leading cocktail bars. Allow at least a couple of hours if you plan to eat as well as drink. If you are going on to dinner at Masque, a drink here first is easy, as the two are in the same compound.

The mill compound is part of the redeveloped industrial district between Mahalaxmi and Lower Parel, and taxis are the easiest way to reach it, particularly late at night. Masque is in the same complex, so the two pair naturally for dinner and drinks, and The Bombay Canteen in Kamala Mills and Aer at the Four Seasons in Worli are a short taxi ride away.
