Good to know
Novotel Beijing Peace is a mid-range hotel run by Accor at 3 Jinyu Hutong, in the Wangfujing area of Dongcheng. Its main advantage is location: according to the hotel, Wangfujing's shopping district is about 300 metres away, a three-minute walk, while the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are each about 1.5 kilometres away, roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot. Jinyu Hutong subway station is about three minutes' walk from the door.
Facilities cover what most travellers need. The hotel has a swimming pool and fitness centre, a restaurant, and a lobby bar serving wine, cocktails, tea, coffee and snacks. There are 11 meeting rooms, which makes it useful for small business events, and several room types to choose from.
For visitors, the central position means you can walk to many of the main sights and restaurants. Donglaishun's main hotpot branch is in the Beijing APM mall at 138 Wangfujing Street, and Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing's MO Bar, with its terrace view of the Forbidden City, is on the same street at No. 269. The Peninsula Beijing on Goldfish Lane is also nearby, should you want to dine at Jing or Huang Ting.
The hotel suits families and travellers who want a central base without paying luxury prices, as well as business travellers who need meeting space. The pool is a bonus for families with children after a day of sightseeing.
Book directly through the Accor website for the latest rates and room types, and check the hotel page for current details of breakfast and facilities.
From Wangfujing, the Forbidden City can be reached on foot, and Jingshan Park, with its view over the palace roofs, is just to its north. The National Museum of China on Tiananmen Square is also within walking distance, and the metro gives quick access to the rest of the city, including the Lama Temple and the Temple of Heaven, both of which have stations at their gates or nearby.
For evenings, the Qianmen area with Lao She Teahouse and Blue Note Beijing is a short taxi ride to the south, and Gulou's cafés and the Shichahai lakes lie to the north-west.
